Is social media actually worth your time?

Have you ever wondered if social media is actually worth your time? Well, let me tell you, as a cost-efficient marketing tool, it's tempting to think so. Brands these days are all about curating their Instagram feeds to grab attention. However, as a small business owner or entrepreneur, you might find yourself doing all of the social media work yourself.

Luckily, tools like Canva make graphic design a breeze, but it still takes a lot of time to take photos, write copy, and create artwork. And the truth is, social media isn't always the answer. Not all of your potential customers are on social media, which means you might be wasting your time on this tool when there are other great options out there that will actually turn your effort into sales more quickly.

To give you an example, I used to spend 15 hours a week creating a month-worth of content for social media, and without monetising those posts, they were basically just a dream. With fewer followers, I found that I wasn't seeing any sales without an ad budget. That's when I realised that our potential customers were actually in their 40s. Email should be the best way to reach them, so I switched to Mailchimp and sent out one email. And you know what happened? A significant increase in revenue in a few hours.

So, the lesson here is not to rely too heavily on social media. Think about a day in the life of your customers. Social media and email might not be the best tools for your business, but something like Google Business could be. Have you tried any other tools that have worked for you? Let me know in the comments!
